Dance as active meditation
Dance is the ultimate source of joy, the joy of expression through our bodies.
We are born to dance, dance originated as a bonding ritual in ancient cultures. It was a special gathering around fire, with the stars, to sing, dance, and play instruments
The reason why some people say they don’t like dancing is rooted in fear, fear of ridicule, fear of exposure and critique from the outer perspective. Dance is not about the audience, but the dancer, the inner feeling. Just like a bird does not need an audience to sing, nor the applause, or a diploma, a bird sings for the mere joy of it.
Dancing comes naturally to young children. Dancing is de-conditioning the mind out of the outer noise or looks.
I find dance an essential part of spiritual awakening, there is no right or wrong step or move, let it all flow and express yourself how you feel in the moment. Dance can be an active form of meditation.
At lotus, dancing is based on choreographies but there is room for free styling.
